As 2013 draws to a close, we look back on the year’s events and share our predictions for 2014.
The birth of LTG
2013 saw the introduction of the Learning Technologies Group (LTG). The group has been formed with the purpose of creating a market-leading business within the exciting and fast-growing learning technologies sector. LTG officially commenced trading on the AIM on 7th November and has already made a positive impression in the financial media. The group’s current portfolio includes Epic and our multi-device authoring SaaS sister gomo learning, and hopes to grow organically and through acquisition in 2014.
LearningNow
Epic and Towards Maturity held three successful LearningNow events in 2013. Attendees were invited to explore and tackle key L&D issues of the day during interactive workshops and seminars delivered by industry experts. The first of the three events, ‘Why won’t they comply?’ featured four key speakers discussing compliance in the workplace. ‘Induction strategies that work’ followed in September and addressed the challenges that many employers and employees face during the induction process. The final event, ‘Performance support – embedding learning into the workflow’, featured presentations from Jane Hart, Imogen Casebourne and Simon Martin. Epic and Towards Maturity will be collaborating for more LearningNow events in 2014.
Tin Can API
Tin Can API continued to capture Epic’s attention throughout 2013. Learning Designer and Tin Can API Working Group contributor Andrew Downes has been at the forefront of the project. Andrew’s blog post ‘Three free guides to understanding Tin Can’ features three insights available for download on the Epic Knowledge Base. Epic’s series of blog posts on Tin Can has sparked discussions between L&D professionals on social media throughout 2013 and we are looking forward to future developments.
Google Glass
Epic’s interest in wearable performance support continued throughout 2013. The Apple iWatch and Google Glass were two of this year’s exciting announcements. Epic’s Director of Learning, Imogen Casebourne, investigated the potential of wearable performance support for learning and development. Imogen’s blog post ‘Google Glass – dream learning tool or privacy nightmare?’ explored the reality of technology-enhanced spectacles and the etiquette surrounding these new ‘smart glasses’. Epic will be receiving a pair of Google Glass in time for the New Year, continuing the discussion into 2014.
And our prediction for 2014?
gomo learning
gomo 2.0 is set to be released in 2014, presenting the latest in multi-device learning. To be the first to see the all-new gomo, register for updates on the gomo holding page. gomo will also be showcasing a sneak preview of the software as a service (SaaS) at Learning Technologies 2014. Visit stand 113 in the exhibition hall to be the first to experience the future of beautiful multi-device learning. Simplified.
