As part of our ‘Getting to Know’ series of blog posts, we’re talking to central members of the LEO Learning family so you can get to know them a bit better. Today we’re talking to Kath Fleet, a Learning Consultant working at LEO Learning UK.
Describe your role at LEO Learning
As a Learning Consultant in the Bid Team, my role is incredibly varied. To sum it up briefly, I work with clients in the early stages of our engagement to understand their business needs and challenges so that I can shape our initial thinking as to how we might work together.
The longer version is that I get to work on an amazing range of projects with a wide variety of clients in numerous sectors. My job involves working closely with the client’s Account Director here at LEO Learning to draw on their understanding of the client’s business need.
I take what I have learned from them and from client conversations or field visits and propose a creative solution to address their needs. This might encompass multi-device learning, face-to-face training, virtual classrooms, video and animation platforms and social learning – the whole shebang!
I then work with the Account Director to present our findings and ideas to the client, fine-tune the offer and hand it over to the Account Team – a fantastically talented bunch of people who develop the ideas further and bring them to fruition.
Every day presents a new challenge and a new opportunity – no two days are the same. I’m constantly learning, which I absolutely love.
Which part of working at LEO Learning do you love most?
I work in a really close-knit team – we all support each other through the challenges of delivering high-quality proposals in a very deadline-driven discipline. We’re like a well-oiled machine. I love the variety of creative projects I get involved with, but I couldn’t deliver without the talent, dedication and professionalism of my Bid Team colleagues.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Work-wise I couldn’t single out one project, but I take enormous pride in seeing initial ideas grow and evolve into something living and real. We get some incredible feedback from our clients and that is immensely satisfying.
Outside of work my proudest accomplishments are a) raising a wonderful son and (b) destroying my personal best in the Great South Run – Brighton Half Marathon here I come.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?
Being a single mum for five years. It was tough, no question, but as my dad always used to say, “One door closes; another one opens”, and when I met my husband it surely did. I now have a charming and handsome teenage lad with an extended family that he doesn’t remember not knowing. Life is sweet.
What are the three things you can’t work without?
- My LEO Learning family – I call on their expertise and innovation every day
- Modern technology. How did we meet deadlines before we had email?
- Glasses – can’t see a thing without them these days
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Happy. One thing I have learned is that contentment is very under-rated. Happiness is a total plus. I’m lucky enough to be happy.
