Getting to Know… Geoff Bloom

As part of our ‘Getting to Know’ series of blog posts, we’re introducing central members of the LEO Learning family so you can find out a bit more about them. Today we’re talking to Geoff Bloom, a Principal Consultant based in LEO Learning’s London office.

Describe your role at LEO Learning

I split my time between delivering consultancy to clients, providing learning design expertise to projects, leading a team of Learning Consultants and Lead Learning Designers and providing support to our business development team.

Which part of working at LEO Learning do you love most?

The variety. I love working with clients and our production teams to create great learning on lots of different subjects. I have always worked in a project environment and I love the commitment and energy that comes from working on projects. I also like working with the different parts of LEO Learning’s parent company, Learning Technologies Group plc (LTG), and seeing how different parts of the group can combine to create better ways of doing things.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Being involved in the learning technologies industry from the very early days and getting the chance to work on so many new ways of delivering learning. Most projects are very satisfying to work on.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?

I constantly find technology both a challenge and an enabler. The pace of change and volatility of technological change has helped us to achieve some fantastic innovations, but things become redundant quickly and go backwards as well as forwards. For example, the quality of phone calls, especially teleconferences, seems to be at an all-time low.

Without technology, I wouldn’t have had this fascinating career – but I also find it incredibly frustrating.

What are the three things you can’t work without?

My phone, the LEO Learning team and lots of paper.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a landscape gardener. But I was lucky enough to get some work experience of this while I was still at school and quickly realised it was an all-weather career.
