Getting to Know… Chris Sargeantson

As part of our ‘Getting to Know’ series of blogs, we’re talking to key members of the LEO Learning family so you can get to know them a bit better. Today we’re talking to Chris Sargeantson, a Lead Learning Designer based in LEO Learning’s Sheffield, UK, office.

Let’s meet Chris.

Describe your role at LEO Learning.

I’ve always found Learning Design a really hard profession to describe, especially when someone springs a “what do you do?” question out of the blue! The role is so varied. But as a Lead, I work with our clients to analyse their learning and business needs, design engaging learning solutions and deliver projects with the wider production team.

Which part of working at LEO Learning do you love most?

It’s a strong competition between getting to work with a fantastic, multi-disciplinary team of talented individuals, colleagues and friends… and the breakfast on Fridays in the Sheffield office.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Working on the multiple award-winning NHS Leadership Academy – at many different levels. I started at LEO Learning as an intern working on it and now as a Lead, I still do maintenance work on it from time to time.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?

Putting a leash on perfectionism.

You can’t always make everything perfect. Sometimes, for any of a long list of reasons, things – whether it’s a LEO Learning project or a personal creative project like my music – won’t quite turn out how you wanted them to. Learning to accept that, and accept that mistakes are ultimately beneficial for your development, is a difficult process.

What are the three things you can’t work without?

  • Tea
  • My ever-growing collection of desk trinkets
  • Some paper to write down a song idea so it doesn’t bother me all day!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A Jedi. Fortunately, as I got older, I realised what I lacked in magical space powers, I made up for in an impeccable taste for goth clothing – and luckily, that’s compatible with my job.
