LEO and Stronger Together Collaborate on New Modern Slavery Courses

LEO GRC is releasing three new modern slavery courses on tackling forced labor in the agriculture, aquaculture and fishing, and manufacturing sectors. Find out the full details in this blog post.

The International Labour Organization reports that forced labor is the most common form of modern slavery. Forty million people across the world are estimated to be victims of modern slavery. Almost 25 million of those are in forced labor. A person in forced labor has been coerced to work through violence, intimidation or other threats, such as being reported to immigration authorities.

To tackle the problem, LEO and Stronger Together have previously partnered on modern slavery courses for global and UK businesses, as well as specific training for recruiters and supervisors.

Enter the new courses, ‘Tackling forced labor in global supply chains’, which focus on forced labour along supply chains in three industries.

Forced Labor in Global Supply Chains

As global supply chains become more complex, the problem of forced labor persists.

In the global economy, businesses now work across different industries and multiple locations. For example, a manufacturer based in the US may source the parts for a single product from multiple suppliers. A food retailer in the UK may source produce from across the world, interacting indirectly with millions of workers employed by their suppliers.

Forced labor is often hidden within these complex global supply chains, involving suppliers many steps down the chain.

To effectively tackle forced labor, organizations need employees within their business and throughout their supply chain to spot the signs of forced labor and take action against it.
